We’re Hiring: Product Developer Apprenticeship

The T R I M Apprentice Program is a paid, three month immersive experience in software and mobile development. Apprentices receive hands-on training, work side-by-side with T R I M engineers and product designers, and gain experience in all aspects of agile software creation.

The Apprentice Program

At T R I M, we don’t just build great apps and websites. Teaching, learning and self-improvement are important aspects of what we do and our Apprentice Program is an example of our culture in action. Our success hinges on our team of specialists and we believe in investing in the future of South Florida tech. So we thought, why not actively develop our next generation of T R I M Specialists? What if we could welcome a few of the smart, motivated new developers and continue to nurture their skills – what would that look like?

Our Apprentice Program is a 3-month immersive training experience in software development, as well as building tech companies and products the “T R I M Way.” Apprentices receive hands-on training while building and shipping code for our current clients. As they work side-by-side with T R I M engineers and product designers, they will not only strengthen their coding skills, they will learn to become consultants. This means the apprentices will gain experience in all aspects of creating software including defining sprints, team collaboration, pairing, testing, interfacing with clients, and reflecting on progress during our weekly retrospectives.

A Live Experiment

At T R I M, we like to say that we live in Beta and the Apprentice Program is another example of this positioning. 2020 is our fourth iteration of the apprenticeship program, and we’re excited to see what will happen. We’ll be collecting feedback along the way from everyone involved, and documenting the journey.

Skills Required:

Full Stack Development Understanding (Bootcamp Grad or Higher)

Entry Level Experience in HTML/CSS

Entry Level Experience in a front-end framework like Angular or React (Preference for Angular)

Entry Level Experience in API Development (Rails, Node, or Python)

The ideal candidate is entering the job market as a software developer, but want to accelerate their skill set, through exposure to the full build cycle, opposed to a small cog in a large wheel. This program is NOT intended for people without a working knowledge of software development.

Trim’s Office Named “Coolest of 2015”

South Florida Business Journal Honors Office Design

We believe that the space that you occupy is a very impactful part of your story. The South Florida Business Journal recently put an exclamation point on that story by naming us to the list of,”Coolest Offices of 2015.”

One year ago, we made the decision to take our same digital design approach to planning and building our physical work environment–the collaborative office that we named General Provision. Our hand crafted space tells our lean startup story: raw, innovative, agile, and concise. Our clients are lean startups, seeking a digital team that is raw, innovative, agile, and concise.

It is an honor to see that others who walk in to our doors make that connection…even if the only verbalized sentiment is “cool.”

Take a look at the other great places that we share this honor with: http://bit.ly/1Hm04NF

0 to 1000

What goes in to creating something meaningful?

We began General Provision in June of 2014 for these reasons:

  1. We needed an office.
  2. We thought others in our community needed a place to work.
  3. We wanted to build the creative-tech ecosystem in Fort Lauderdale.
  4. We hoped to identify talented people that we should be hiring or potentially partnering with.
  5. We wanted a platform to conduct experiments by presenting a physical representation of our digital approach.

General Provision is our home and our playground. It is the house brand ofTrim Agency. Our friends, clients, and employees are always welcome here. This is the beginning of our story.

“We should have a coding academy.”

Why our digital consultancy now is home to one of the country’s best programming bootcamps.

If we are serious about sharing what we do, bettering our community, and building a movement in Fort Lauderdale, then we needed to be contributing to that community.

General Provision is proud to announce the addition of Broward County’s first independent programming academy to their FATvillage headquarters this coming April. General Provision has become the new home of Wyncode FATvillage, as the Miami-based accelerated learning program and development bootcamp expands to Broward County.

Wyncode, which began it’s first academy at The LAB in the Miami Arts District of Wynwood, strategically partners with coworking spaces to entrench their students in a startup environment as they learn how to build web applications.

“Computer programming is in high demand in South Florida and we believe that someone who is willing to work hard to change their life and professional direction can get a well-paying job provided they receive the right education”, Wyncode Academy’s co-founder Johanna Mikkola said. “We are thrilled to partner with Trim Agency to bring our program to Ft. Lauderdale, where we have found the perfect venue in General Provision”

The program is full-time, intensive, nine week bootcamp that teaches HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Ruby on Rails. Graduates leave the program ready to join companies as junior web developers and have been hired in tech jobs at a 92% placement rate. Wyncoders have also gone on to start their own companies, such as visual menu app meme.menu and innovative coupon aggregator CouponMate.

Trim Agency’s collaborative work space, branded General Provision, which outfits creative professionals with a vehicle for community, craft, and commerce, was a natural fit for Wyncode. The program is described as the “Art of Code.” Students will have 24 hour access to our facility and it’s amenities as they learn by doing, culminating in a pitch day where they will present their own web apps. Trim Agency will provide test-projects and a first hand look of the inner-workings of a software consultancy.

We will be empowering new developers to build the next great thing; whether it’s for themselves, for Trim Agency, or for another great company. And we think that is really meaningful.
